Water mill, Sint-Gertrudis-Pede

Heritage

Hiking

The water mill of Sint-Gertrudis-Pede, popularly called Pedemolen, is one of the few still working water mills in the Pajottenland. According to some sources, the mill is depicted in the more than 400 years old Bruegel (famouse Flemish painter) paintings 'The Return of the Herd'. The original mill dates from 1392, but was rebuilt after a fire in the 18th century. In 1989, the municipal council of Dilbeek bought the mill. After a very thorough restoration, it has been able to grind again since 2002. You will find a unique dog mill in the courtyard. The dogs walked in the wheel and the turning movement used to be used to churn butter. Behind the mill you will find a beautiful piece of nature, an oasis of peace and quiet, which is managed entirely ecologically. The pond with boardwalk is a delight to the eye and attracts many animals. In the orchard you can get acquainted with old fruit varieties. Or why not pick an apple yourself?

The Pede mill hike is 9,6 km and starts at Lostraat 84, 1703 Sint-Gertrudis-Pede (Dilbeek).
